Denbury Boys Challenge Walk 2023
Hadrian’s Wall Way Friday 12 –Monday 15 May 2023.

Job done and all now home safely without any injuries.  Andrew Locke (ex Quadrant Troop) John Birkinshaw (ex Kohima Troop) & myself Bernie Temmen (ex Kohima Troop) had an enjoyable 4 days completing the 84 mile trek from east to west along this route. We were thankfully assisted by our ‘Sherpa’ George McIntosh (ex White Swan Troop) who kept us entertained in the evenings with his stories. 

As we had arrived early in Wallsend on the Thursday afternoon we decided to bang in some miles to reduce the load on the first day.  This turned out to be 12 miles ending at Newburn and in hind sight was the correct move as we would have ended up completing well over 20+ miles on the first day.  Saturday (day 2) on the Wall over the section known as the ‘Crags’ the weather was ‘cooking hot’ and certainly energy sapping.  Hadrian’s Wall Way is certainly not a flat route as this section proves although the best panoramic views are from up there in good weather. 

I would like to thank John for arranging all the accommodation plus keeping us on the route, Andrew for double checking Johns route finding and keeping the statistics of our walking each day, George for running us here, there & everywhere during the 4 days and finally my body for holding out over the journey!!
